spawnpoint vs Retool for internal tools
Retool fits a company that wants internal tools built in one editor, on top of databases it already runs, with permissions an IT team manages. spawnpoint fits a company whose people already build apps with Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor and need a place where coworkers can open them. On spawnpoint the people you share an app with open it free. Retool bills each person who uses its apps.
Retool's pricing page in October 2026 lists the Team plan at $12 a month per builder and $7 a month per internal user, and the Business plan at $65 and $18, billed monthly. Annual billing is 20% less. An internal user is any enabled account that did not build or edit anything that month. People outside your organization are not included on Free or Team, and Business meters them past the first 50. Two builders and 40 coworkers who use the tools cost $304 a month on Team, or $220 billed annually.
On spawnpoint, Pro is $100 a month for the person who makes the team, and up to 10 members join free and deploy apps to it. Everyone else opens an app because someone shared it with them: by email, or as everyone at your company's email domain. They type a one-time code from their inbox and never make an account, and there is no limit on how many people you share with. Contractors and clients open apps the same way, on every plan.
The apps are made differently. A Retool app is built from Retool's components, placed in its editor or generated by its AI, which uses credits for each prompt. A spawnpoint app is whatever the agent writes: a page, a Python or JavaScript server, or a program in any other language. The agent gives it a database, file storage, or AI on open models when it needs one, and all of it is in the plan. The code is yours, and the agent changes it whenever you ask.
Retool does things spawnpoint does not. It connects to a company's existing databases and APIs with permission groups, it keeps audit logs, and it can run on your own servers. If your tools are mostly screens over a production database that an IT team controls, those features matter more than the price.
